Zakynthos, the beautiful island of the Ionic Sea has a lot of names: Homer called it Yliessa, the Italians the Flower of the East ( Il flore di levante), and nowadays travellers the Ionic diamond or the floating garden or even the Ionic bride. The homeland of Dionysios Solomon, the poet who used the common Greek language and not the classic one because of his belief that everyone should have access to poetry. Part of his Ode to Liberty is the national anthem of Greece.
